I'm currently studying recreational therapy in university. In reading about your foundation, I have been excited to see how my program of study aligns with the Shader Kids mission.
Recreational therapy focuses on utilizing recreational activities and experiences to improve
physical, emotional, and social well-being. It is all about creating opportunities for individuals to develop life skills, build self-esteem, and form meaningful connections with others. Similarly, Shader Kids has an emphasis on leadership and growth in a fun outdoor setting.

Camp Chief Hector
Bursary Recipient
Now in my second year pursuing a degree in teaching at U of C, I try to embody the principles of leadership, growth, and community engagement that lie at the heart of Shader Kids' mission.
With a strong passion to utilize recreational activities as catalysts for learning, I understand the transformative power of outdoor experiences in fostering physical, emotional, and social development—a sentiment echoed in Shader Kids' commitment to nurturing future leaders in outdoor education.

Camp Chief Hector
Bursary Recipient
I know there was a lot of candidates so I hope I can honor the bursary I have been chosen for. I am proud to have shared a lot of Aboriginal knowledge with the staff at CCH, I was able to speak towards 200+ staff during Aboriginal day, teach beading techniques to name a few of the counsellors at Bowfort lodge and share some vital stories of my culture with the kitchen staff.
I will always remember my time at CCH and look fondly towards it, teaching the youth has always been a passion of mine next to cooking so I feel very accomplished with my summer season at CCH.

I am a student specializing in physiotherapy at University of Alberta and I'm dedicated to my personal values of leadership, growth, and community - which I believe align with Shader Kids very well.
As a camp counsellor at Hector, I'm driven by my belief in fostering inclusive spaces where individuals can flourish, empowering young people (and old) to express their true selves in a safe and supportive space.
My passion for physiotherapy comes from my love of outdoor activities. I'm hoping to build my career in an area that offers many of my favourite activities where I can help people recover from their own misadventures - and enjoy the great outdoors when I'm not at work.
* Please note: the names of our Shader campers and leaders have been changed but the bios are real. We are so proud of our young people who we have had a chance to support and also want to protect their privacy.
